Stipend for Volunteer Firefighters
As part of the effort to strengthen and stabilize the state’s volunteer fire service, the NYS Division’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) will administer the stipend to volunteer firefighters for completion of the following training courses completed on or after August 31, 2023.

NYS LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - All active members must create an account in this system to register for training classes.
Orange County Fire Services Facebook Page - They list upcoming training classes.
FASNY- Tuition reimbursement is available for students with passing grades. Make sure you apply.
Orange County Training Classes - A large variety of classes is given at the Orange County Fire Training Center Located in Goshen NY. For more information about the Orange County Fire Training Center and the classes offered, Click Here.
Online OSHA Training - This is a free training program developed by VFIS in partnership with FASNY. A series of modules are required to be completed in order to earn the VFISU 401 – FASNY OSHA Annual Refresher certificate of completion.
Scholarships
FASNY Scholarships -The Firefighters Association of the State of New York will award (25) $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors entering college. The deadline to submit an application is March 1.
Johnson Fire Department Scholarships -The Johnson Fire Department will award scholarships to graduating Seniors who are members of the Johnson Fire Department entering college, military or vocational school. The deadline to submit an application is May 1.
Orange County Volunteer Firefighter's Association - Up to two $1,000 Scholarships will be awarded. Applications must be submitted by May 1. Application
Fire Family Foundation Scholarships - The Foundation offers (10) $5,000 scholarships to the children of firefighters every year. Please review the full guidelines below for eligibility criteria. The deadline to submit an application is March 1.
Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan - They offer hundreds of different scholarships. A list of available scholarships.
Uniformed Firefighters Association - The application period runs from August 1 - October 1 each year.
America's 911 Foundation, Inc. - The scholarship typically funds fifteen - $2,000 scholarships.
Sander Cohen Scholarship Foundation - Our Mission is to provide educational scholarships for individuals who pursue careers that train them to rescue the endangered, treat the injured, and restore safety to the communities they serve. Deadline to submit an application is March 1. Enroll in a 2-4 year college or university leading to a degree in:
- Firefighter
- Police Officer
- EMT/Paramedic
